2661. Robert Southey to Grosvenor Charles Bedford, 20 October 1815

2661. Robert Southey to Grosvenor Charles Bedford, 20 October 1815 *
Brussels. 20 Oct. 1815
My dear G.
Per varios casus, [1] – here we are again, – after having been delayed six days at Aix le Chapelle by Shedaws illness, – for she was very seriously ill, & you may imagine our situation. – This cost me some money, & I have not been sparing in the purchase of books. I have seen much, heard a great deal, fallen into good company, & spent my time on the whole most advantageously.
Tomorrow I go again to Waterloo, for the purpose of getting drawings of Hugoument, which I shall probably have engraved with my poem. [2] Monda Sunday we start for Antwerp, & rejoin our party on Monday night at Ghent, thence to make the rest of our way for Calais. Let me find 20 £ at the Dover post office, & tell the Docstor that in all probability I shall be with him in ten days from this time. But I will write to him from Dover. – Herries’s letter followed me to Spa. I am now desperately sleepy, – but must steal an hour from sleep to carry on my Journal – a work for which it is very difficult to find time. You will be surprized to see what a length it extends – [3]
God bless you my dear G
