2665b.Robert Southey to Grosvenor Charles Bedford, 29 October 1815 [English translation]

2665b.Robert Southey to Grosvenor Charles Bedford, 29 October 1815 [English translation]*
Behold, my friend I am here
On account of which I am glad;
So, as I believe, you are reading
Because it is a delightful thing
After a sorrowful passage
Over the stormy sea
(Oh miserable me, it was all night
One voice of vomiting!)
Spit out by an angry sea
On the English shore,
And there I found with great joy
Your letter with money.
Now we are staying at Vardon’s house
Our friend, a good traveller;
And from there tomorrow, If I make good speed,
Perhaps I will see you again.
Give my love to your mother
To Miss Page and your brother.
This missive
Classical and festive
You may put with many others
Farewell, O beloved head!
Greenwich. Sunday night. 29 Oct. 1815
