Dear Wynn

My poor child is dying of hydrocephalos. I have been in a state of convulsive agony. but have cast that off & am now tranquil & perfectly resigned. she is quite insensible & that is a mercy for which I am not unthankful

As soon as she is gone xx where so many of my friends are gone before her – & where I must one day follow – we shall set off for Keswick. it will be the best place for my poor heartbroken Edith. her sister has a little girl about six months old – whom if I can I shall strive to love with a sort of adoption. If I thought you could meet you on our way I should be very glad. give me a line to say if you are at Wynnstay – for by Gods blessing I trust we shall not be chained here many days longer – & perhaps we could appoint a meeting at the Cross Foxes [1]
