Josiah Wedgewood
Anna Aikin was introduced to the potter Josiah Wedgwood by Thomas Bentley, a dissenting merchant who was a friend of Joseph Priestley. According to William McCarthy and Elizabeth Kraft, a medallion of Barbauld based on a portrait in wax made by Joachim Smith was struck in 1775, two years after the publication of her Poems. A modern version of the medallion can be found at the Wedgwood Museum, Barlaston, Staffordshire, England. The image included here is based on the version facing the title page of Memoir of Mrs. Barbauld, Including Letters and Notices of Her Family and Friends. By her Great Niece Anna Letitia LeBreton.
