The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Richard O'Brien's stage musical, The Rocky Horror Show, was adapted for the screen in 1975. The movie was directed by Jim Sharman, and starred Tim Curry (Dr. Frank N. Furter), Susan Sarandon (Janet Majors), Barry Bostwick (Brad Majors), Richard O'Brien (Riff Raff), Peter Hinwood (Rocky), Charles Gray (narrator), Patricia Quinn, Nell Campbell, and Meat Loaf. Brad and Janet Majors, whose car has broken down, search for a phone at a mansion. There they discover Dr. Frank N. Furter, the "Sweet Transvestite from Transsexual Transylvania," and his creation, Rocky.
The film did poorly at the box office on its first release, but soon became a cult favorite, with regular midnight showings featuring audience participation.
