Note: Prometheus (Un)Bound
Prometheus bound (and eventually unbound) is the subject of a famous trilogy of plays by Aeschylus, the conclusion of which is lost. The Romantics were extremely interested in the myth.
- Lord Byron wrote a dramatic lyric, "Prometheus," [external link] in which the tortured titan remains defiant to the end;
- Percy Shelley ironically "completed" the cycle with his own prophetic lyrical drama of liberation, Prometheus Unbound [external link];
- Mary Shelley's famous novel, Frankenstein [external link], is subtitled: the Modern Prometheus.
