2321. Robert Southey to Grosvenor Charles Bedford, [2 November 1813]

2321. Robert Southey to Grosvenor Charles Bedford, [2 November 1813] *

Dear Grosvenor

I can dine with you on Thursday, if it suit your arrangements. Your dinner will help to settle the oaths upon my subject stomach. – I do not see how I would give you any day but this, without staying in town on purpose. Let me come in the character of Bootes, [1]  & this will suit my convenience in a matter of some interest: – for I shall then be able to go from the Chamberlains office [2]  to Chelsea to make inquiry about Edwards wife. [3]

Let me find a note in Q Ann Street on my return.

God bless you

RS.

Tuesday 8 o clock

[2] Southey had to visit the Lord Chamberlain’s Office to take the oath as Poet Laureate. BACK

[3] The Miss Lack, whom Edward Southey claimed to have married. In fact, no marriage had taken place; see Southey to Edith Southey, 5 November [1813]. BACK
