456. Robert Southey to [Humphry Davy], 22 November 1799 *

Friday Nov. 22. 99.

My dear friend

Finding the complaint at my heart continue, I have come to the resolution of wintering at Bristol, where we shall probably arrive about the same time with you. it is our intention to set off on Monday seven night next; as I shall so soon be in your neighbourhood it will I think be hardly worth while for you to come fourscore miles out of your way, especially as I have not strength to show you the country. A slow fever, of which I have just got rid, has reduced me very much & left me miserably weak. these effects however daily go off – but the perpetual sensation I feel at heart puzzles, & somewhat alarms, me. At Bristol I can have advice which cannot be had here. the friends whom I have resident there render this no unpleasant journey – I shall hope to see much of you during the winter.

God bless you

yrs affectionately

Robert Southey.
