Item Description:

This intimate domestic scene is centered on two lovers who are so absorbed in each other that they are simultaneously spectator and spectacle. The potential for voyeurism in the viewer is precluded by the artistry of the setting, particularly by the wooden beams which frame the couple as a work of art, aestheticizing the naked bodies of a man and a woman into the nude bodies of a pair of lovers. The work of the viewer in interpreting the lovers as such finally figures him or her as an emancipated spectator.
