Baldwin’s published record of his 1785 journey featured illustrations of both the view from the balloon which he himself had sketched during the flight, and this view of his balloon as it floated over Helsbye-Hill in Chester. This sketch, with the dramatic image of the Helsbye-Hill below and the “tremendous” storm clouds on either side of the balloon, emphasized the sublime nature of the flight.
