Balloon Dancer

This comic image of a ballet dancer whose ability to leap has been greatly accentuated by his use of a balloon, appeared as part of a humorous 1845 article by Horace Mayhew in George Cruikshank's Table-Book that suggested an ironic list of supposedly practical “avocations to which the balloon might lend its accelerating influence.”
