The Department of English at the University of South Florida announces the Eleventh Annual DeBartolo Conference on Eighteenth-Century Studies, to be held in Tampa, February 20-22, 1997. Several distinguished scholars, including Peter J. Stanlis (Distinguished Professor of Humanities, Emeritus, Rockford College), Moira Ferguson (James E. Ryan Chair in English and Women's Literature, University of Nebraska), and Pat Rogers (DeBartolo Professor in Liberal Arts, University of South Florida) will speak.

The keynote speeches include:

  • Moira Ferguson, "In Commemoriam Mary Wollstonecraft: Tyranny Writ Large in The Wrongs of Women," Friday, Feb. 21.
  • Peter J. Stanlis, "Edmund Burke and the American Revolution: From Empire to Federal Union," Saturday, Feb. 22.

Registration:

The pre-registration fee of $80.00 includes luncheons and other refreshments. Send checks payable to the DeBartolo Conference to the above address by January 20, 1997. Registration at the Conference will be $85.00.

Conference Site:

Meetings will convene at the Holiday Inn/Busch Gardens, 2701 E. Fowler Avenue, Tampa, FL 33612, (813) 971-4710. Daily rate for the conference is $62.00 single/double. To ensure this rate, registrants must identify themselves as DeBartolo Conference participants and book accommodations directly with the hotel by January 20, 1997.
