I must not send off the conclusion of a five weeks journal,
without once more thanking you for all your kindness to Bertha. She will bring home with her much improvement of every kind, as well as a large stock of delightful recollections. Her visit has extended to an unreasonable length of time, – but I hope that some convoy will be found for her & her sister in the course of February. We are beginning to be a little impatient of their long absence. The house does not seem like itself in winter evenings without them.
My next Journal
enters upon a wider circuit, & thro a greater variety of scenes. I shall begin to transcribe it without delay, glad to have a motive for so doing in the hope that it may afford you some entertainment.
I remain
Dear Madam
Yrs very faithfully
Robert Southey.
