My dear Sir

In xxx reply to your obliging letter (which I find on my return to town) I can promise (Deo volente)

(1)

‘God willing’.

to be with you Monday the 12th instead of going from Crediton to Taunton on that day. I must advance on my circuit the next, –

Had you been at Porlock about the 15th I might possibly have looked for you there.

With the good old English wish at this good season, that you & yours may enjoy it now, & witness many happy returns of it, believe me to remain

Sir Thomas
with sincere respect
Yrs faithfully
Robert Southey.
