3841. Robert Southey to [Francis Chantrey], 20 May 1822

MS: Cornell University Library. ALS; 1p.
Unpublished.

Dear Sir

My friend Wordsworth has informed me that I am to consider his bust, which now ornaments my library, as a present from you.

(1)

A copy of Chantrey’s bust of Wordsworth, completed in 1820.

I shall look upon it henceforth with the more pleasure; & it will carry with it an additional value to those who may possess it after me. – The likeness is perfect, & I have never seen the character of any countenance more finely preserved.

I thank you heartily for this, – & few things would give me more pleasure than to have an opportunity of expressing my thanks to you in person under my own roof, – if you could be tempted to visit the Lakes.

I beg my remembrances to my brother Bard Mr Cunningham

& remain
Dear Sir
Yours faithfully & with sincere respect
Robert Southey.
